Southwest Target Area Homepage

Vision
To be the catalyst for economic progress in rural communities by facilitating and supporting entrepreneurial networks.

Mission
The mission of Umpqua CDC’s MEDAL Program is to work for and with people to provide community-based economic development opportunities so that our community may collectively and individually recognize its intrinsic value and realize its economic potential.

Overview
Umpqua Community Development Corporation is a non-profit 501(c) (3) organization located in Roseburg and has been providing affordable housing and economic development to Douglas, Coos, and Curry Counties since 1991. The MEDAL (Micro Enterprise Development and Learning) Program has been providing business training since 1994, and was formed based on a demonstrated need from the community, to offer low-income entrepreneurs the opportunity to start a business or expand an existing business by providing them with the skills and tools necessary for their business’s development and growth.

As the Southwest Oregon Target Area Lead, Umpqua CDC is connecting with local communities to identify the specific needs of entrepreneurs. By utilizing a survey process, potential and existing business owners identify needs and concerns specific to their businesses or geographical areas. The goal is to connect the entrepreneurs with local and statewide resources through trainings, workshops, one-to-one assistance, and referrals to other applicable resources.
